Excellent concert today with an audience of over 1000! We've been to see the Olympic Stadium and Birds' Nest, and now we're off to the market. Duck for tea!

Wed 4th Aug

Another fab day. This morning we went to a market where you had to barter. Fiona much better than the others! Visited Tiananmen Square and had another concert with an audience of 200.

Tonight we are on TV in the UK! Meridian Tonight is showing an item on us at 18:00 on ITV1 (see our video page for a clip of this).

Tue 3rd Aug

The concert went brilliantly and we had an audience of about 400! Lots of people want to know more, write music for us, and we've even been invited to Palestine!

Mon 2nd Aug

Here we are after a long climb up the Great Wall this morning!

We spent the afternoon at the Forbidden City, and finally returned to the hotel in the evening after a tiring but great day. Tomorrow is our first concert.

Sun 1st Aug

Arrived safe and well - mid-afternoon local time. We had a private bus from the airport to the hotel, and our own guide! The hotel rooms are excellent and we spent the evening eating out and shopping and then chatting in the bar with the other UK performers from Robert Smyth School. Tomorrow we're off to the Forbidden City and Great Wall.

Acer Saccharum have been invited to perform at the Internation Society for Music Education Conference in Beijing this summer. We will be doing two performances for the delegates, and at least one other concert in a major venue in the city while we are there.

In order to fund this trip we need to raise about £9000 before we go in August 2010 - no small feat when there are only four of us. We have been frantically fundraising since December 2009, doing things like bag-packing in Tesco, holding raffles, baking and selling cakes, running a tuck-shop at Reading Music Centre, and of course performing. We are making good progress to the target but we still need as much support as possible: If you would like to help then please contact us.
